Class # 2

It was almost overwhelming as I watched the webinar on apps that can assist students with communication disorders. I was blown away at all the apps that were discusses and how quickly and easily they could be accessed. Just today, I had a student try and log on to a student computer in my room to do an activity. It took him 8 minutes to log on to the computer and open up the program that he was to work in. The mobile devices that use these apps are a lot quicker to turn on and access the app with the touch of a button, literally! The clear and crisp images on these apps and clear voices were unbelievable. The next day I went to school and was talking to our student services team about the webinar and they were very interested in getting the link and watching as our school just this year has been really getting into the use of mobile devices and have put in a proposal to the board for more. A student can be using a program app on their mobile device and a student a couple desks away can not glance over and see what they are doing; it can be so much more private. A lot of students do not like to do or use things that make them look different. Using a student desktop computer, other students can easily see “their business”, but with mobile apps, this problem is alleviated. I really liked the SLP utility app called the Chronological Age Calculator that quickly calculates the student’s chronological age. This is an app I will definitely download to assist me in any in-house assessments I do that require this! I also really liked the Speech with Milo Sequencing as I have a student that would benefit and really enjoy this app. I know watching this webinar is just scratching the surface of all the wonderful apps out there, a person could almost lose themselves in the great big sea of apps!
